Job Description

Make a meaningful impact by supporting elementary students with visual impairments as a Braillist for the 26/27 school year. This contract opportunity involves direct engagement with young learners, transcribing instructional materials into braille, tactile graphics, and other accessible formats to ensure full participation in their educational journey. Located near Gig Harbor, WA, this role offers a rewarding blend of specialized skill and daily collaboration.

Key Qualifications:

Demonstrated proficiency in Unified English Braille, confirmed by either the WSSB Braille Competency Test, NBPCB Unified English Braille exam, or a Library of Congress certificate in literary braille transcribing (WAC 181-82-130). Prior experience working in a school setting is highly desirable. Ability to pass WSP and FBI fingerprint/background checks and a sexual misconduct clearance. Valid Washington State Driver's License or clear evidence of mobility. Passion for working with children and a commitment to accessible education.

Primary Responsibilities:

Convert lesson materials and classroom resources into braille and tactile formats tailored to student needs. Collaborate closely with teachers, specialists, and support staff to adapt resources and support general education access. Maintain accuracy and timeliness in material production to align with classroom instruction. Contribute to a positive, inclusive elementary school environment focused on student growth. This role is based on student in-person days only, following a Monday-Friday (8:30am-4:00pm) schedule, totaling 37.5 hours per week.
