Position:
Crime Prevention Specialists perform non-sworn support duties in the areas of education regarding crime prevention methods and techniques on home and business security, property identification, and personal protection for individuals and community groups. Incumbents will be required to make presentations to property owners, schools and community groups on crime prevention. Crime Prevention Specialists are allocated to the District Attorney's Office and the Sheriff's Office. Education and Experience:
Education, training, and/or experience that demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above.
Examples of qualifying education/experience are:
Six (6) months of full-time work experience preparing program materials, conducting outreach and making presentations to educate the public and community groups for the purpose of promoting crime prevention techniques related to public safety, personal safety, home and business security and community awareness; AND , Nine (9) units of college course work in any of the following disciplines: criminal justice, journalism, speech arts, psychology and sociology. Condition of Employment:
As part of the County of San Diego's pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Additional types of background investigations may be conducted based on the job-related activities of the position. Current County employees may be excluded from this process.
Working Conditions/Special Requirements:
Ability to work irregular hours, shifts and weekends To accommodate the needs of the community, evening meetings may require night shift adjustments Both office and field environment; work may be in different community facilities across the County A valid California Class C driver's license, which must be maintained throughout employment in this class, is required at time of appointment or the ability to arrange necessary and timely transportation for field travel. Incumbents in this class may be required to use their own vehicle for field travel
Evaluation:
Qualified candidates will be placed on a six (6 ) month employment list based on scores received during the evaluation of information contained in their employment and supplemental applications.
