JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Latent Print Supervisor, or designee, this position performs independent routine technical examinations in the evaluation, comparison and identification of fragmentary friction skin impressions utilizing well-defined methods; encodes. Searches and registers ten print and latent images into Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) databases. Updates case management and other information management systems as required. Safeguards evidence and maintains chain-of-custody using protocols and applicable documentation. Ensures safety precautions and applicable regulations are followed. Assists in the training of law enforcement officials in the techniques of evaluating, identifying and comparing latent fingerprints. Prepares and assists with presentations. Clearly conveys the opinions and findings as determined through detailed examinations and analysis in both oral and written forms. Coordinates routine to moderately complex matters related to scope of analyses with other laboratory units, outside agencies and related entities. Testifies in court to the findings of examinations and work performed with any fingerprint related requests.

EOE/ADA EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/LICENSES

Associate's degree in Crime Scene Technology, Forensic Science, Criminal Justice or other physical or natural science required. One (1) year relevant experience or certification in Forensic Science, Crime Scene Technology or Criminal Justice required. High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of two years' relevant experience may be considered in lieu of Associate's degree. Knowledge of fingerprint analysis/comparison/evaluation, photography, fingerprint development, evidence handling and report writing is preferred. International Association for Identification Latent Print Examiner Certification is preferred. Current proficiency as measured by a latent print comparison proficiency exam within the past twelve months is preferred. Computer skills preferred. Knowledge of laws preferred. Must maintain a valid Florida Driver's License at all times. Unescorted CJIS clearance as authorized by FDLE is required.

MINIMUM PHYSICAL AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

The physical abilities listed below are estimates of time spent during a typical workday to perform essential functions and responsibilities. Members in this position may be required to:

• Operate an agency vehicle
• Stand, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl for extended periods of time
• Work extended periods of time while wearing special equipment
• Work in hazardous conditions
• Work all shifts and be on call
• Hear a conversation at a normal level (assisted or unassisted)
• Perform all functions of the job classification without posing a direct threat to the health and safety of other individuals in the workplace

Other Requirements:

• Vision correctable to 20/40
• Near vision sufficient to color correct close-up photographs or digital images NOTE It is understood that every incidental duty connected with operations enumerated in job descriptions are not always specifically described and personnel, at the discretion of the Sheriff's Office may be required to perform duties not within their job descriptions.

This position is not eligible for an assigned agency vehicle.
