Job Description

To assist in developing programs involving citizens in the reduction of crimes against persons and property in Marion County. Assist District Commander and central Crimewatch office in organizing, instructing, and motivating citizens in crime-prevention endeavors; monitor and evaluate effectiveness of programs; alter/amend programs as necessary with approval of Commander. Schedules and conducts Crimewatch Block clubs; delivers presentations on crime-prevention techniques; advises members of available services in public/private sectors; offers possible solutions; maintains files on, and monitors status of, clubs; strives to ensure active status of same. Delivers presentations to community groups on prevention of victimization and services/assistance available through Crimewatch Office, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, and/or other agencies. Maintains liaison with leaders and other members of community to determine optimal program-development plans; acts as resource to inform interested parties of Crimewatch activities and plans. Interacts with Departmental personnel, like-agencies (Prosecutor's Office, etc.) to assist victims as appropriate; acts as liaison between general and outside agencies. Submits summaries/reports of activities to Commander and central Crimewatch Office (i.e., new and/or continuing trends, meetings attended, distances travelled and mileage, future plans, etc.). Other duties and responsibilities that are applicable and/or as assigned.

B.S. degree in a social science or related field (i.e., Journalism, Sociology, Psychology, Education, Anthropology, etc.). One (1) year of related experience may be substituted for each year of formal education. Must be able to schedule daytime and evening meetings seven (7) days per week. Must maintain a current Indiana Driver's License in order to remain in position. Ability to obtain knowledge of Departmental/City functions and procedures. Ability to recruit and lead volunteers. Ability to present effective programs and operate audio-visual equipment.

Work is performed in a standard office setting, with Crimewatch club activities being held in private homes and/or businesses.
