How we live it? Being respectful, pleasant and helpful to ALL. The Coroner's Office is hiring a full-time (40 hours/weekly), non-exempt Evidence Control Technician to join their team! The purpose of this position is to receive and properly document all items submitted for storage by law enforcement personnel; to preserve and safeguard all submitted items from contamination, degradation and theft; and to ensure a proper chain of custody is maintained at all times. Projected Hiring Range/Pay Grade 109: $18.50

Duties and Responsibilities:
Receives, preserves, documents and records items submitted by law enforcement and other authorized personnel; safeguards the potential evidentiary qualities of such items; and maintains the chain of custody for submitted items. Maintains detailed and accurate inventory records through the use of a computer database and other files. Ensures that database and paper records are accurate and reconciled. Ensures that items are stored in correct locations and that records reflect current locations. Retrieves items as needed and upon request. Inventories, controls, provides security for, and supervises the storage and release of valuable items designated for storage in the vault. Prepares item destruction requests; research cases, to include retrieving case records and contacting involved law enforcement officers and prosecutors, in order to complete a destruction request. Ensures that items that have been approved for destruction are destroyed in an appropriate manner. Performs periodic physical inventory of items and submits inventory reports. Assists members of the public with locating items (e.g., vehicles, firearms, found property) that may have been submitted to the Evidence and Property Unit. Testifies in court as needed. Attends autopsies and collects biomedical samples to place in evidence. Assists investigators with counting and documentation of medication/drugs collected at death scenes Performs related work as assigned.
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent Certifications /
Licenses:
May require additional professional or technical certifications as deemed necessary by management. Applicants with equivalent experience and/or education may be considered.
Physical Demands:
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement. Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs on repetitive operation of mechanical or electronic office or shop machines or tools within moderate tolerances or limits of accuracy.
