A Crime Scene or Forensic Science Technician collects and analyzes physical evidence from crime scenes. Carefully documents a crime scene and catalogues evidence collected. Conducts laboratory analysis of evidence gathered, uses computer databases to identify evidence, and uses findings to reconstruct crime scenes.
Safe Harbor is looking for a The Sexual Assault Community Advocate that ensures that survivors of sexual violence are offered accessible, safe, trauma-informed services. This position provides advocacy, case management, crisis intervention, and safety planning to adult and teen survivors of sexual violence in the Lifeline and Prevention Center at Safe Harbor Crisis Center. In addition, this position works closely with medical personnel, law enforcement, and other community partners to provide education and awareness of the impact of sexual violence on victims.
Summary of Descriptions and Responsibilities:
Required to be on-call for forensic exams during the week in addition to one weekend a month (48 hours), and two holidays a year (24 hours). Required rotating building coverage (Monday-Thursday from 9am-5pm). Required rotating Protective Order Court Lead (Wednesdays 8:30am). Maintain an ongoing caseload of sexual violence clients. Provide sexual violence clients with wraparound victim advocacy. Assist sexual violence clients with filling protective orders. Coordinate, facilitate, and train on sexual violence psychoeducational groups. Attend community training, workgroups, and coalition meetings. Coordinate and/or facilitate Sexual Violence community presentations as needed. Assist in keeping sexual assault supplies stocked and organized. Assists with SART planning and facilitation. Assist with SAAM events.
Essential Functions/ Skills:
Communication skills are essential. These include effective communication, conflict resolution, problem solving, and crisis management. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where limited standardization exists. Respond empathetically to survivors of crime to reduce levels of trauma and provide support during crisis intervention. Relate positively to persons who are diverse in age, ethnicity, socioeconomic levels, beliefs and lifestyles. Follows state and federal laws on victim confidentiality. Understand the importance of Safe Harbor Crisis Center and its volunteer's role in the community. Support Safe Harbor Crisis Center's mission and vision.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree from a four-year college or university in social sciences or related field. Experience with direct social service with knowledge in sexual violence, women's issues, human and child development, and working with families in crisis. Experience working with law enforcement. Experience filing protective orders. Experience with community presentations or facilitating educational groups. Experience with advocacy support during forensic exams.
