•THIS

JOB DESCRIPTION IS CURRENTLY UNDER REVIEW AS PART OF THE CITY'S MEET AND CONFER PROCESS AND MAY BE SUBJECT TO CHANGE

•SUMMARY Under the direction of the Public Safety Department, the position of Crossing Guard will be responsible for the safe crossing of school children at designated City locations.

EXAMPLES OF REGULAR DUTIES

include the following. This list is meant to be representative, not exhaustive. Some incumbents may not perform all the duties listed while in other cases related duties may also be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Direct the actions of children and traffic at street intersections and cross walk areas to assist in the control of safe crossing. Report hazardous conditions to the Public Safety Department and appropriate authorities such as traffic light malfunctions; report suspicious activities or vehicles; report behavioral issues such as fighting; report frequent vehicle violations such as speeding and not stopping. Make safety presence known via City issued signs and identifiable uniforms at all times. Related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES

EDUCATION

AND EXPERIENCE

A typical way to obtain these would be: No previous experience is required. However, working with children is desirable.

KNOWLEDGE OF

Basic safety rules for crossing streets and for ensuring child and pedestrian safety.

ABILITY TO

Communicate effectively and in a positive manner with children; bilingual capabilities in Spanish and English is desirable, but not required; read, understand, and interpret safety rules; maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
