The Crossing Guard is responsible to assist in directing automotive or pedestrian traffic in order to ensure safe crossing of students in school parking lots or designated intersections. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities for the classification. The Crossing Guard is responsible to assist in directing automotive or pedestrian traffic in order to ensure safe crossing of students in school parking lots or designated intersections.
WORKING CONDITIONS
ENVIRONMENT:
Outdoor work environment. Seasonal heat and cold or adverse weather conditions. Exposure to fumes, oil/grease.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Standing for extended periods of time. Walking. Seeing to direct the safe crossing at intersections with and without a signal and depth perception to judge approaching vehicle's closeness to an intersection. Hearing to be aware of children and traffic. Possess arm strength to hold sign up so that it can be seen by approaching traffic. Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally. Dexterity of hands and fingers to hold stop sign. Requires speaking skills in order to communicate with students.
HAZARDS:
Traffic hazards. Exposure to fumes and oil/grease. Exposure to noise. Exposure to extreme weather conditions. Walking on uneven ground and wet or slippery surfaces.
KNOWLEDGE OF
Traffic regulations, especially those pertaining to pedestrians. School safety rules and regulations. Stopping distances of moving vehicles. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy. Student behavior management strategies and techniques. Basic written and spoken English.

  • This position is one hour per day. 30 minutes in the AM and 30 minutes in the PM
  • Meadowbrook Middle MBMS and Pomerado Elementary School
  • Eligible candidates will be placed on a 6-month eligibility list.
  • Summers and school vacations and holidays are off!
Candidates who possess a valid and current CA teaching credential OR that possess a Bachelor's Degree AND have passed the CBEST will be placed at Step 6 of the salary range designated for this classification.
ABILITY TO
Learn and apply traffic regulations, especially those pertaining to pedestrians. Read, interpret, and follow rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Demonstrate an understanding, patient, and receptive attitude toward others. Communicate effectively in oral and written form. Carry regulation sign and wear district provided safety attire. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Respond appropriately to feedback, direction, and evaluation. Display sufficient stamina to permit performance of duties in inclement weather. Be tactful and helpful under unfavorable or difficult situations. Effectively handle difficult and/or angry people.
