Position Overview Liberal Public Schools is seeking a caring, organized, and student-focused individual to serve as the In-School Suspension (ISS) Coordinator. This position provides supervision and support for students assigned to the ISS program by maintaining a structured learning environment where students remain academically engaged, reflect on their behavior, and develop the skills necessary for a successful return to the classroom. The ISS Coordinator works closely with administrators, teachers, counselors, students, and families to promote accountability, positive behavior, and student success. Key Responsibilities Student Supervision & Behavior Support Supervise students assigned to the ISS program throughout the school day. Maintain a safe, structured, and respectful learning environment. Communicate program expectations and consistently enforce school and district policies. Monitor student behavior, provide positive behavior support, and utilize de-escalation strategies when appropriate. Escort or supervise students during lunch, breaks, restroom visits, and approved transitions. Monitor assigned hallways before school, after school, and during passing periods. Supervise after-school detention as assigned. Academic Support Coordinate assignments with classroom teachers and ensure students complete academic work during ISS. Assist students with understanding assignments while encouraging independence and accountability. Monitor academic progress and return completed work to teachers. Provide access to instructional materials and technology as needed. Communication & Recordkeeping Maintain accurate attendance, ISS, detention, and disciplinary records. Prepare and distribute suspension notices and other documentation as directed. Communicate with administrators, teachers, counselors, and families regarding student progress and behavior. Maintain confidentiality of all student records in accordance with district policy and FERPA. School & Department Support Assist administrators with student supervision and behavioral support initiatives. Participate in student reentry meetings, intervention planning, and professional development. Maintain an organized ISS classroom and utilize district technology systems effectively. Respond appropriately to emergencies and support school safety procedures. Perform additional duties as assigned. Qualifications Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED. Meet Kansas paraprofessional requirements (48 college credit hours, Associate degree or higher, or successful completion of an approved paraprofessional assessment). Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills. Ability to supervise students while maintaining a calm, structured environment. Ability to maintain accurate records and confidentiality. Ability to exercise sound judgment and remain professional in challenging situations. Preferred Qualifications Experience working with students in an educational, behavioral, or supervisory setting. Experience with student behavior management, intervention, or counseling support. CPR, AED, First Aid, crisis response, or de-escalation training. Valid driver's license. Physical Requirements & Working Conditions Ability to sit, stand, walk, and supervise students throughout the school day. Ability to respond quickly to behavioral incidents and emergency situations. Ability to occasionally lift or move classroom materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
