Job Description
Job Summary The Crossing Guard plays a vital role in ensuring the safety of children and pedestrians at designated crosswalks, particularly during school hours. This position requires a responsible individual who can effectively manage traffic and communicate clearly with both drivers and pedestrians. The ideal candidate will be attentive to their surroundings and possess the ability to respond quickly in emergency situations. Duties Safely direct traffic at designated crosswalks to ensure the safe passage of students and pedestrians. Communicate effectively with drivers, using hand signals and verbal instructions to manage traffic flow. Monitor and assess the environment for potential hazards, ensuring a safe crossing area. Assist children in crossing streets safely, providing guidance on proper pedestrian behavior. Report any incidents or unsafe conditions to appropriate authorities promptly. Maintain compliance with local safety regulations and guidelines, including OSHA standards. Provide basic first aid as needed, demonstrating knowledge of CPR and vital signs when required. Qualifications Previous experience in a safety-related role is preferred but not required. Knowledge of OSHA regulations and compliance management is beneficial. Certification in First Aid and CPR is highly desirable. Strong communication skills to interact effectively with children, parents, and drivers. Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond appropriately in emergency situations. Understanding of HIPAA regulations is a plus for maintaining confidentiality during incidents. Familiarity with EPA guidelines related to public safety is advantageous. Candidates should be prepared to work outdoors in various weather conditions while actively engaging with the community to promote safety.
