School Support Associate Elementary School (Immediate Hire)
WHO WE ARE
Central Queens Academy (CQA) is an award-winning, high-performing, free, public charter school which opened in 2012. Currently we serve approximately 400 middle school scholars in grades 5-8 and 500 elementary school scholars in Kindergarten through 4th grade. CQA was founded to serve the families in District 24, specifically those who live in and around the multiethnic, multicultural, and multilingual communities of Elmhurst, Corona and Woodside. Our scholars and their families hail from over 30 different nations and speak over 20 different languages at home. More than 80% of our scholars would be the first in their families to attend college.
POSITION OVERVIEW
School Support Associates are paired with a veteran teacher to learn from while also supporting their class. School Support Associates oversee lunch and recess. School Support Associates serve as our in-house substitute teacher, thereby giving them experience in multiple disciplines. School Support Associates are given small groups of intervention scholars to support in reading and math development.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree preferred At least 1 year of teaching support experience in an urban setting highly preferred Evidence of self-reflective practices, coachability, self-motivation, and collaboration required.
