Position Overview:
The Lunch and Recess Aide is an essential role in ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment for students during lunch and recess. This position involves monitoring student activities, promoting positive behavior, and supporting the overall well-being of children during meal and playtime.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee student behavior during lunch and recess to maintain a safe, respectful, and positive atmosphere. Support the serving of meals, including helping students with food choices, maintaining the cleanliness of meal areas, and ensuring proper portion sizes. Assist in keeping the lunchroom and playground areas clean and organized by managing waste disposal and ensuring sanitary conditions. Encourage active play during recess, ensuring that students engage in safe and inclusive activities while promoting teamwork and good sportsmanship. Assist students and foster positive interactions among peers to support social development. Build rapport with students, addressing any questions or concerns they may have, and communicating effectively with school staff regarding any issues that arise. Work in collaboration with teachers, cafeteria staff, and other supervisors to ensure seamless transitions between lunch and recess activities.
Qualifications:
A high school diploma or equivalent and an associate's degree or higher in education or a related field are preferred. Experience working with children in an educational setting is preferred. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team. Patience, empathy, and a passion for helping students succeed.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with classroom management and differentiated instruction.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand, walk, and engage with students and staff for extended periods.
Additional Information:
The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the district.
