POSITION SUMMARY
The School Crossing Guard supports student safety by assisting students, families, and pedestrians in safely crossing designated streets and intersections before and after school. The Crossing Guard must remain alert to traffic conditions, identify potential hazards, and provide clear directions to motorists and pedestrians. This position requires consistent attendance and punctuality during assigned morning and afternoon crossing periods. Work schedules and hours are based on the RYSS academic calendar and campus needs.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum Qualifications Must be at least 18 years of age. High school diploma or GED preferred. Sufficient education and communication skills to understand instructions, safety procedures, and complete required documentation. Previous experience working with children, schools, traffic safety, security, or the public preferred. Must successfully complete all required background checks
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES
Ability to recognize traffic patterns and determine when it is safe for pedestrians to cross. Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively. Ability to observe approaching vehicles and pedestrian activity from appropriate distances. Ability to remain attentive and respond quickly to emergencies or unsafe conditions. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to work effectively and professionally with children, parents, staff, and community members. Ability to exercise good judgment and maintain composure in stressful situations. Must be dependable, punctual, and available for assigned morning and afternoon shifts. Must have reliable transportation. •
