SUMMARY :
The Hall Monitor supports a safe, respectful, and orderly school environment by providing active supervision of hallways, common areas, entrances, campus grounds, and school activities throughout the school day. Serving as a visible and approachable adult presence, the Hall Monitor builds positive relationships with students while helping reinforce school expectations, promote appropriate behavior, and support student engagement and accountability. Working under the direction of the Building Principal or designee, the Hall Monitor monitors student movement throughout campus, assists with attendance and tardy interventions, helps maintain supervision during transitions and student activities, and responds to routine student concerns. The position serves as an important liaison between students and school staff by identifying potential concerns, providing redirection and support when appropriate, and communicating behavioral, safety, or supervision issues to administrators. The Hall Monitor contributes to a positive school climate by promoting respect, responsibility, and cultural responsiveness while helping ensure students remain safe, supervised, and focused on learning.
ABOUT CHIEF LESCHI SCHOOLS
: Formerly known as the Puyallup Tribal School, Chief Leschi Schools was founded in 1976 to address the high dropout rate of the youth of the Puyallup tribe. It is the largest of seven tribal schools in the state of Washington and one of approximately 200+ tribal schools in the United States. It is also one of the largest tribal schools to be funded by the Bureau of Indian Education.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
: Monitor hallways, common areas, restrooms, entrances, parking lots, campus grounds, and other assigned areas to ensure student safety and compliance with school expectations. Supervise student movement during arrival, passing periods, lunch periods, dismissal, and other non-instructional times. Build positive and professional relationships with students while serving as a visible, supportive adult presence on campus. Provide reminders, redirection, and guidance to students regarding school rules, behavioral expectations, and campus procedures. Monitor student attendance, hall pass usage, tardiness, and unauthorized campus activity as assigned. Assist with maintaining a safe, respectful, and orderly learning environment by identifying and addressing low-level behavioral concerns. Observe, document, and report behavioral, safety, attendance, and supervision concerns to appropriate administrators or staff members. Assist with student supervision during assemblies, athletic events, field trips, emergency drills, special events, and other school activities. Monitor campus entrances and exits to help ensure visitor, student, and staff safety. Assist with student check-in, check-out, and campus access procedures as assigned. Respond appropriately to student conflicts, safety concerns, and other incidents while seeking administrative assistance when necessary. Support implementation of school-wide behavior expectations, positive school climate initiatives, and student accountability programs. Assist administrators with locating students, conducting welfare checks, and supporting routine student supervision needs. Maintain accurate records, logs, incident reports, and other documentation as assigned. Maintain effective communication with students, families, staff, administrators, and community members. Participate in staff meetings, training programs, professional development activities, and safety trainings as assigned. Maintain regular attendance, punctuality, and professional conduct. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or GED. Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age. One (1) year of experience working with youth, students, families, customers, community members, or the public in a school, recreation, security, customer service, coaching, mentoring, military, or related environment. Demonstrated ability to establish positive relationships and maintain professional boundaries with adolescents.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Associate degree or higher in Education, Human Services, Criminal Justice, Psychology, Social Work, Youth Development, or a related field. Experience working in a middle school, high school, tribal school, youth program, community organization, or similar setting. Training or experience in behavior management, conflict resolution, restorative practices, de-escalation techniques, or student engagement. Experience supervising adolescents in educational, recreational, community, or structured youth environments. Knowledge of traditional Native American cultures, communities, and values.

ABILITY TO

Exercise sound judgment and make appropriate decisions within established guidelines and procedures. Observe student behavior and environmental conditions and identify potential safety concerns. De-escalate situations and redirect student behavior using respectful and professional communication. Establish rapport and credibility with students while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries. Work effectively with administrators, teachers, counselors, families, and community partners. Accurately document incidents, observations, and activities. Follow verbal and written instructions and carry out assigned responsibilities with minimal supervision. Adapt to changing priorities, schedules, assignments, and student needs. Walk, stand, and actively patrol campus areas for extended periods of time. Demonstrate cultural responsiveness and serve as a positive role model for students.

The physical demands described here are representative of those required to perform the essential functions of this position. Employees may be required to sit or stand for extended periods and perform tasks involving reaching, talking, hearing, bending, stooping, twisting, squatting, kneeling, and fine motor coordination. This position may require regularly lifting or moving up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds, with appropriate assistance or equipment as needed.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is primarily performed in an indoor educational environment with moderate noise levels. Employees may work in and/or proximity to classrooms, students, and standard office or instructional equipment. Conditions may vary based on program needs.
