This is a rare chance to get in early with a growing team, learn a ton, and grow fast. We're starting this role part-time, with real potential for it to grow into a full-time position as we do. Who we are ShaferTech is a boutique managed IT services provider serving businesses across Northern California. We keep our clients' technology running smoothly by providing everything from day-to-day support to network management, to building and maintaining their websites. The role You'll be the friendly first point of contact for our clients — the person who picks up the phone, answers the email, and makes sure problems get solved. Day to day, you'll triage incoming tickets, provide phone and email support, keep our documentation accurate and up to date, and occasionally head out to a client's office for hands-on help. It's a role where no two days look exactly the same, and where the better you get, the more you'll take on. What you'll do Triage incoming support tickets and make sure each one gets to the right place, fast Provide friendly, patient phone and email support to our clients Troubleshoot everyday issues - Windows, Microsoft 365, email, printers, accounts, and more Handle user onboarding and offboarding using our documented, repeatable processes Keep our documentation clean and current, and turn solved problems into reusable knowledge Make occasional in-person visits to client offices in our service area for hands-on support Make good use of your tools to work efficiently and deliver great support What we're looking for Solid tech fundamentals: you're comfortable troubleshooting Windows and the Microsoft 365 basics (users, passwords, licenses, email), and you can walk a non-technical person through a fix over the phone Great with people: calm, patient, and genuinely enjoy helping folks who aren't technical; clear and professional in writing and on the phone Comfortable with
AI:
you use AI tools in your work and, just as importantly, know when to trust them and when to double-check Organized and self-directed: you keep good notes and don't need to be told twice to update documentation Eager to learn: you're the type who teaches yourself new things and wants to grow into higher-level technical work Dependable and local: you'll be based in our Chico office and able to make occasional client visits (reliable transportation and a clean driving record) Available and flexible: you can work at least 3 days a week within our core hours (Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm), and you're willing to pitch in with occasional overtime or off-hours support, including some evenings and weekends, when a client needs it Bonus points Previous help desk, MSP, or IT support experience (even part-time, internship, or campus IT) Familiarity with RMM/PSA or documentation tools Basic networking knowledge An IT certification (CompTIA A+, Network+, or similar) — nice to have, not required Why you'll like working here You'll learn faster here than almost anywhere else. You'll work directly with experienced people who are happy to mentor you, on a team that's genuinely excited about where technology is headed. We'll invest in your growth - there's a clear path from this role into higher-tier technical work and, as we grow, toward full-time hours. We're the kind of place that rewards people who step up, and you'll come away with skills that keep you ahead of the curve.
