LOCATION OF POSITION

Maryland Department of the Environment\r\nAir and Radiation Administration\r\nCompliance Program,�\r\nField Services Division,\r\n1800 Washington Blvd. \r\nBaltimore, MD� 21230\r\n Main Purpose of Job The Environmental Compliance Specialist I is an entry-level position that\r\nwill learn to perform duties in the field of environmental regulatory\r\ncompliance and, with experience, perform some duties independently. The\r\nincumbent in this position will be an air pollution field inspector and will\r\nensure compliance with air pollution requirements at regulated facilities.\r\n\r\n\r\nThis position involves the following working conditions:\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Exposure\r\n to uncomfortable or unpleasant surroundings.\r\n The\r\n inspector may be exposed to foul odors and/or dusty, noisy, and hot conditions.\r\n Exposure\r\n to hazardous conditions which may result in injury.\r\n Inspections\r\n at steam boilers potentially expose the inspector to high pressure steam or\r\n extremely hot water.\r\n Physical\r\n demands such as lifting 50 pounds or more, climbing ladders etc.\r\n Ladders\r\n may be on gasoline storage tanks, baghouses, or during stack testing when\r\n access to the room may be necessary.\r\n Required\r\n use of protective equipment—such as goggles, gloves, hearing protection, steel\r\n toe shoes, hard hats and masks—during site visits when required.\r\n\r\n�\r\nThe incumbent will be required to drive a State vehicle. If you hold an\r\nout-of-state driver's license, you must provide a certified copy of your\r\ndriving record from the issuing state's� Motor Vehicle Administration at\r\nthe time of hire. All individuals must maintain a driver's license with no more\r\nthan 5 points on their driving record to operate a State vehicle.\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:

Four years of experience performing inspection or investigation work related to State, federal or local regulation, code or standard compliance.\r\n

Notes:

\r\n1. Candidates may substitute sixty credit hours from an accredited college or university which includes thirty credit hours in any combination of disciplines such as earth science, environmental science, geology, civil or environmental�engineering, biology, chemistry, agronomy, forestry or other�related discipline and two years of experience performing�inspection or investigation work related to State, federal or local regulation, code or standard compliance for the required�experience.\r\n2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in earth science, environmental science, geology, civil or environmental engineering, biology, chemistry, agronomy, forestry or other related discipline for the required experience.\r\n3.�Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Environmental Engineering and Natural Resources classifications or Environmental Engineering and Natural Resources specialty codes in the Engineering and Natural Resources field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.\r\n

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS 1.

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland. \r\n2. Employees in this classification may be required to obtain and maintain certification or license in the designated environmental compliance area. \r\n
