Job Description

Overview The Code Enforcement Officer plays a critical role in ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to public health, safety, and environmental standards. This position involves conducting inspections, enforcing codes, and collaborating with various stakeholders to maintain community standards and promote safety. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of construction practices, regulatory frameworks, and effective communication skills. Duties Conduct inspections of residential and commercial properties to ensure compliance with building codes, zoning laws, and health regulations. Issue permits in accordance with Town Ordinances and State Statutes. Investigate complaints related to code violations and take appropriate enforcement actions. Prepare detailed reports documenting findings from inspections and investigations. Collaborate with local agencies and departments to address compliance issues effectively. Maintain accurate records of inspections, violations, and resolutions for regulatory reporting purposes. Educate property owners and the public about relevant codes and regulations to promote compliance. Stay informed about changes in OSHA standards, FDA regulations, and other relevant legislation impacting code enforcement. Skills Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction practices is essential for ensuring workplace safety. Familiarity with FDA regulations as they pertain to public health standards is highly desirable. Proficient in compliance management techniques to effectively enforce codes and regulations. Excellent report writing skills for documenting inspections and regulatory findings clearly and concisely. Ability to perform regulatory reporting accurately to maintain transparency with stakeholders. Strong communication skills to interact effectively with the public, property owners, and other agencies. Problem-solving abilities to address compliance issues in a timely manner while promoting community safety. This position is essential for maintaining the integrity of our community's health and safety standards through diligent enforcement of codes and regulations.
