The Drinking Water Bureau's (DWB) Sustainable Water Infrastructure Group (SWIG) assists public water systems with technical, managerial, and financial assistance to ensure communities can provide a safe and sustainable supply of drinking water. New Mexico's community public water systems are often struggling to meet the regulations and reporting requirements needed to deliver clean safe drinking water. Public water systems may require assistance and training to navigate the various laws, rules, and regulations that apply to them. The position will provide capacity assistance to ensure public water systems are in compliance and eligible for infrastructure funding. They will provide a wide range of support to public water systems including the board, customers, and various state agencies. How does it get done? Supporting and assisting community water systems to increase technical, financial, and managerial capacity. Providing technical, financial, and managerial assistance to assist public water systems return and maintain compliance with state and federal regulations that apply to regulated drinking water systems. Training public water system personnel across New Mexico on topics that impact public water systems. Interacting and supporting water systems, customers and stakeholders to ensure they have access to funding, resources, and trainings to meet various challenges. Making contact with external Federal, State and Local regulatory bodies as well as contractors and environmental not for profit organizations. Who are the customers? New Mexicans to protect and restore the environment Occasional contact with external Federal, State and Local regulatory bodies as well as contractors and environmental not for profit organizations Internal staff Ideal Candidate New Mexicans to protect and restore the environment Occasional contact with external Federal, State and Local regulatory bodies as well as contractors and environmental not for profit organizations Internal staff Minimum Qualification Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture Science, Hydrology, Geology, Environmental Science, Water Resources, Watershed Management, Physics, Natural Science, Physical Science, Life Science, Biology, Chemistry, Geography, Forestry/Forest Science, Conservation Science, Wildlife Science, Emergency Management, or Engineering and four (4) years of relevant experience. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling eight (8) years may substitute for the required education and experience. Employment Requirements Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment. Working Conditions Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Some overtime and overnight travel may be required.
