Under general direction of the Fire Chief, the Fire Captain, supervises, assigns, reviews, and participates in the work of staff responsible for controlling and extinguishing fires; rescuing persons endangered by aircraft crash and fire or structural fires; preventing fire by reducing or eliminating potential fire hazards; responding to and providing assistance for medical aid calls, vehicle accidents, and Hazmat incidents on airport grounds. Essential Functions Supervising day-to-day ARFF functions, developing staff to a high degree of competence, and overseeing the assignment of subordinates to include maintaining airport contract minimum manning requirements. Enforcing discipline, good order, and the highest standards of personal and unit probity. Analyzing problems, identifying solutions and implementing recommendations in support of Aviation Department goals, policies and procedures. Education, Qualifications, and Experience Necessary Minimum 21 years of age Minimum five (5) years full time firefighting experience or three (3) years of ARFF experience with at least one (1) year as a Fire Officer US Citizen with GED or High School Diploma Valid drivers' license and driving history acceptable to the customer. Ability to pass U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) fingerprint and background investigations. Know and understand fire suppression, prevention, and combat (tactical) techniques as it applies to aircraft. Must meet local standards pertaining to qualifications and training.
