FIRE CHIEF
Full-Time, Permanent FLSA Status:
Exempt Pay Range:
$55,120 per year – $75,000 per year Position Overview The purpose of this position is to direct and manage all operations of the Village Fire Department, including fire suppression, prevention, emergency medical services, and administrative functions. Works under the supervision of the Village Administrator and/or Mayor. Supervises command staff and department personnel. Essential Functions- Directs departmental operations; establishes goals, policies, and procedures; develops long-range plans.
- Supervises personnel; assigns tasks; evaluates performance; provides training and development.
- Oversees budgeting and financial management; prepares and monitors department budget; approves payroll and time records.
- Manages recruitment, selection, and disciplinary processes; resolves grievances; participates in labor negotiations (if applicable).
- Assumes command at fire and emergency scenes; evaluates situations; determines appropriate methods; coordinates activities of firefighters and other agencies.
- Oversees fire prevention, inspection, and investigation programs; ensures compliance with laws and regulations.
- Maintains facilities, equipment, and supplies; conducts inspections; oversees maintenance and procurement.
- Establishes and maintains record systems; prepares reports for internal and external agencies.
- Responds to inquiries from the public; provides assistance and information.
- Meets all job safety requirements and applicable OSHA standards; maintains required licenses and certifications.
- Performs other duties as assigned, including operating fire suppression equipment and administering emergency care when necessary. Minimum Qualifications
- Completion of required firefighter II service training and supervisory experience.
- Fire Captain or Assistant Chief experience preferred.
- Paramedic certification required.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Ohio driver's license.
- Must pass pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and criminal background check.
Licenses & Certifications:
- Must possess a valid Ohio Driver's License and be insurable under the Village's liability policy.
- Firefighter II Certification
- Paramedic Certification
- Fire Safety Inspector (may be obtained after employment)
- Must pass a pre-employment physical, drug screening, driving record check, and background investigation.
Other Requirements:
- Ability to interpret and enforce village policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Ability to interpret and enforce state fire codes, policies, and regulations.
- Strong commitment to customer service and safety.
- Probationary period: 6-Months.
