A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.
Provides instruction and guidance to students, fostering academic, social, and emotional growth. Creates a positive and engaging learning environment that enables students to reach their full potential.

Provides a comprehensive instructional program aligned with Ohio Department of Education and Workforce Content Learning Standards. Develops and implements lesson plans that support diverse learning styles and abilities. Utilizes formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly. Maintains a safe, positive, and inclusive classroom environment. Collaborates with colleagues, support staff, and families to promote student success. Engages in regular communication with parents regarding student progress and concerns. Participates in professional development and staff meetings. Implements classroom management strategies that foster a supportive learning atmosphere. Integrates technology and innovative teaching methods to enhance student learning. Assists with school-wide initiatives, activities, and events. Maintains accurate records and complies with district policies and state regulations. Promotes positive behavior and social-emotional development among students. Encourages a love of learning and curiosity in all students.
