FUNCTION

This is specialized work in fire suppression, emergency medical services, fire loss management and other diversified emergency activities. Work is performed under the supervision of the Shift Lieutenant or Senior Firefighter.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Responsible for the suppression of fires and fire loss management (i.e., fire alarms, connecting fire hoses and directing water streams, raising and climbing ladders and performing salvage operations) and emergency medical response activities [i.e., basic life support (B.L.S.) medical assistance and care], identifying and correcting life-threatening situations and assisting in the extrication of victims. Tests and maintains all apparatus and equipment as well as assisting in the maintenance of various City facilities.

Prepares various fire and emergency medical services related reports. Performs related non-essential duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE

Considerable knowledge of the principles, methods, practices, rules and regulations, procedures and operations of fire loss management, fire suppression and emergency medical services. Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations. Ability to remain in good physical condition. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely (i.e., verbally and written). Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees, other federal, state and local governmental representatives, civic groups and the general public is essential.

Graduation from High School or G.E.D. Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate's Degree in related field is preferred.

Prefer successful candidate to have at least one (1) year experience in fire suppression and/or emergency medical services. Candidate must possess a valid Florida Certificate of Compliance, Florida Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) License, Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC), and Florida Class "E" Drivers License.

HIRING RATE

$52,753 Annually
