Job Description
Under the supervision of the Fire Chief, and or Deputy Fire Chief, Firefighter is a non-exempt position under FLSA. This employee is responsible for protecting the lives and property of the citizens of Girard by performing fire suppression, technical rescues, hazardous materials responses, and emergency medical care. This employee should be in good physical condition and can remain poised under difficult and hazardous circumstances.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Protects the lives and property of the citizens of Girard by performing fire suppression, responding to emergency medical and rescue calls.
- Operates, maintains and tests department equipment, including trucks, pumps, hoses, hydrants and other apparatus.
- Prepares and maintains fire reports, drill reports and other reports and records.
- Performs vehicle extrications, using manual and power extrication equipment.
- Arranges and conducts fire education, prevention, volunteer recruiting and inspection activities in public venues.
- Sets up and operates audio, visual and various computer equipment.
- Raises and climbs ladders, lays hose lines and operates charged lines.
- Performs fire ground task
- Performs burn permit inspections and issues burn permits.
- Performs maintenance and cleaning of Fire Station and City grounds.
- Answers telephone calls from the public, dispatches appropriate city resources, monitors radio traffic, performs safety checks during the call-out, and keeps proper records.
- Attends, completes and leads/teaches department training sessions/activities.
- Responds to and assists at hazardous material situations.
- Follows department policies, procedures and practices.
