Job Description

Position Summary Responsible for performing specialized work in prevention and suppression of fires and providing life saving services for the City of Wellington. Essential Functions Responds to fire and medical calls Makes forcible entry into buildings when necessary Assists in rescue operations involving vehicle accidents, structure fires and industrial accidents Performs salvage and ventilation work Operates a variety of tools and equipment including power saw, generators and rescue tools Assists in the suppression of fires Operates firefighting apparatus and equipment Implements emergency medical procedures Operates medical vehicle and equipment to the skill level of training Assists with loading and transferring patients Performs general maintenance work in the upkeep of the department's equipment, apparatus and facilities Assists in testing of hose, hydrants, ladders and pumps Attends drills and classes for fire and emergency medical services Assists with fire inspections and pre-fire plans Performs general office duties Assists in talks and classes for general public in fire prevention and emergency medical services Enforces and maintains compliance with all federal, state and local laws and ordinances Performs other duties as assigned or deemed necessary Complies with all organizational and departmental policies and procedures Operates all job-related equipment, machinery, tools and other aids as required or needed Protects and maintains any confidential information you have access to, whether oral, written, or electronic Position Requirements To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Position Requirements:
High school diploma or other equivalent Certifications /
Licenses:
Valid Kansas Certified EMT Valid Kansas Class B Driver's License Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
Knowledge of all fire control methods and techniques Ability to operate all firefighting, rescue, emergency medical equipment and department apparatus Knowledge of fire and building codes, life safety codes, hazardous materials and construction materials Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work Ability to fulfill all duties with minimal supervision and to work independently Assess situations rapidly and make logical decisions in a timely manner Analyze facts and exercise sound judgment Ability to effectively manage projects and multiple priorities simultaneously Strong written and verbal communication skills Problem solving and critical thinking skills Strong math, spelling, computer, and calculator abilities Ability to communicate in a professional, calm and courteous manner with the general public and employees Attention to detail Disclaimer •The specific statements in each section of this description are not intended to be all-inclusive.
