Job Description

To protect life and property from hazards of fire through fire suppression, administering medical aid, public education, inspections, and other fire prevention duties. Maintains fire equipment and apparatus and facilities. Under the direction of the Deputy Public Safety Director, Deputy Fire Chiefs, and Fire Captains. Performs firefighting activities including driving fire apparatus, operating pumps and related equipment, laying hose, and performs other related tasks. Demonstrates good knowledge of processes and protocols. Responds to emergency incidents in a timely manner. Fellow firefighters and command staff have trust and confidence in their knowledge and skills. Participates in fire prevention and safety education activities. Public receives pertinent information and training related to fire prevention and safety. Responsible for maintaining fire equipment and apparatus according to standards. Equipment is kept clean, free of damage, and continually in operable condition. Regularly participates in firefighting, technical rescue, and emergency medical services training events sponsored by the department. Attends at least six (6) scheduled training drills per quarter. Maintains appropriate MFSCB, MBFTE, and EMSRB licensures and certifications. Performs other job-related responsibilities as apparent or assigned. Must have a valid Minnesota Driver's License. Entry level firefighter position, no experience necessary. Must successfully pass a background investigation, physical and psychological examination and a one-year probationary period. Must be able to pass an annual physical examination Ability to obtain the following certifications upon hire: Firefighter I Firefighter II Hazardous Material Operational Certification Emergency Medical Responder (EMR)
