The Borough of Hanover is seeking qualified Part-Time Temporary Firefighters to supplement Hanover Area Fire & Rescue Commission permanent staffing and assist with operational coverage as needed. Work assignments, scheduling, and number of hours will be based solely on the staffing and operational needs of Hanover Area Fire & Rescue. Position Summary Under the general direction of the Hanover Area Fire & Rescue Fire Chief and Deputy Chief, and the direct supervision a full-time Fire Captain, a Part-Time Temporary Firefighter performs professional firefighting, emergency response and rescue, emergency medical, fire prevention, equipment maintenance, and related duties. The position responds to emergency and non-emergency calls and participates in training and other activities necessary to maintain operational readiness. Essential Duties Duties may include, but are not limited to: Responding to structure fires, fire alarms, emergency medical calls, vehicle accidents, rescue incidents, hazardous materials incidents, and other emergencies. Performing fire suppression, rescue, emergency medical, and related emergency operations. Operating fire apparatus, including pumpers, aerial units, rescue units, air units, and utility vehicles, as qualified and assigned. Providing emergency medical care within the scope of training and certification. Performing salvage and overhaul operations, including removing water and debris and protecting property. Inspecting, cleaning, maintaining, and preparing apparatus, equipment, and station facilities for emergency response. Identifying and reporting equipment deficiencies or unsafe conditions. Participating in required training, drills, and continuing education. Maintaining familiarity with the department's response area, including streets, buildings, water supplies, and identified hazards. Performing fire prevention, inspection, and public education activities as assigned. Completing required incident, inspection, training, and maintenance documentation. Responding to specialized emergency incidents, including hazardous materials, vehicle extrication, confined space, technical rescue, and other incidents within the firefighter's training and qualifications. Providing assistance to members of the public and other emergency responders during emergency and non-emergency situations. Performing other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Applicants must possess and maintain the training and certifications necessary to perform the duties of a Hanover Area Fire & Rescue firefighter, including: Firefighter II certification in accordance with

NFPA 1001

; Vehicle Rescue Technician Level I certification under the current applicable curriculum; Hazardous Materials Operations Level certification; Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification;

NIMS ICS

100, 200, 700, and 800 certifications; A valid driver's license and the ability to meet department requirements for operating emergency vehicles and apparatus; Ability to successfully complete the department's SCBA fit test; Ability to successfully complete a DOT physical/CDL medical examination, as applicable to assigned duties; Ability to meet all department physical and medical requirements necessary to safely perform the essential functions of the position. Physical Requirements The position requires the ability to perform physically demanding firefighting and emergency response activities, including climbing, running, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and working in confined or hazardous environments. Employees may be required to wear protective clothing and equipment weighing up to approximately 60 pounds and may be exposed to extreme temperatures, smoke, fumes, hazardous materials, excessive noise, blood or other potentially infectious materials, and other physical and environmental hazards associated with emergency response.
