Force entry of premises for firefighting appropriately ventilates structure and uses equipment as needed to suppress fires and perform rescues as directed.
Remove persons from danger, including vehicle extrications and administers first aid to injured persons.
Perform general maintenance work in the fire halls including cleaning, washing, minor repairs, painting and other maintenance of quarters.
Clean and maintain firefighting apparatus and equipment.
Participate in fire prevention inspections in commercial and industrial occupancies to ensure familiarity with potential hazards, conditions, water supplies and travel routing.
Provide first responder services to the level qualified.
Participate in fire drills and attends training classes as required.
Perform related work as required.
Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations and determine proper course of action.
Ability to operate a variety of firefighting equipment.
General knowledge of the street system and physical layout of the City.
Ability to perform the mechanical work involved in operating and maintaining firefighting equipment and tools.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Willingness to perform under hazardous conditions.
Knowledge and ability to work with computers and software programs relevant to the position.

July 2026 SUMMARY Firefighters are under the direct supervision of the shift Lieutenant and Captain. Firefighters control and extinguish fires or respond to emergency situations where life or properties are at risk. Duties include fire prevention, emergency medical service, hazardous material response, search and rescue and disaster assistance. Firefighters also participate in station maintenance and training programs.EXAMPLES OF RESPONSIBILITY

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
High School diploma or GED required. Firefighter certifications and work related experience preferred.Successful completion of Basic Rookie and Live Firefighting training through the Tennessee Fire and Codes Academy attain within one year of effective date of assignment or as soon as scheduling permits.
Successful completion of the required training as outlined by the Tullahoma Fire Department Education committee within the first three years of employment.
