Chief Administrive Law Judge Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Secretary of Health and Human Services Office of Medicare Hearings and Appeals Summary The Office of Medicare Hearings and Appeals (OMHA) administers the third level of Medicare appeals and is committed to fair, timely, and impartial adjudicion. The Chief Administrive Law Judge (CALJ) leads OMHA's nionwide operions, providing executive leadership, stregic direction, and judicial oversight while ensuring Medicare appeals are adjudiced in accordance with applicable laws, regulions, and Departmental policies. Duties Help The Chief Administrive Law Judge (CALJ) leads OMHA's nionwide Medicare appeals program and is responsible for the overall management and direction of the organizion. The CALJ provides executive leadership for headquarters and field operions, oversees Medicare appeals adjudicion activities, and ensures Administrive Law Judges conduct fair and impartial hearings and issue decisions in accordance with applicable laws, regulions, and policies. The CALJ also establishes organizional priorities, performance goals, and operional stregies to support OMHA's mission. The CALJ oversees workforce planning, budget and resource management, and modernizion initiives to improve the efficiency, quality, timeliness, and consistency of Medicare appeals adjudicion. In addition, the CALJ serves as the principal advisor to Department leadership on Medicare hearings and appeals mters, represents OMHA and HHS before Federal and external stakeholders, and may personally hear and decide particularly complex, significant, or sensitive cases.
