Salary $54,372 - $97,098 Announcement Number 26-06 Position Description This position is located in the Clerk's Office of the U.S. District Court in Louisville, Kentucky, and will provide support to U.S. District Judge Claria Horn Boom and Senior U.S. District Judge Charles R. Simpson, III. The Courtroom Deputy manages the judges' caseloads and provides courtroom and other assistance through management of court calendars, attending court proceedings, recording pertinent results for minutes, and drafting and docketing orders.
Representative Duties:
Manage judge's caseload by calendaring and regulating the movement of applicable cases. Monitor the filing of pertinent documents and timely responses to judicial orders. Set dates and times for hearings, trials, and conferences. Keep judges and immediate chambers staff informed of case progress or impending changes. Inform jury clerk of upcoming trials, needs for jurors, etc. Attend court sessions and conferences as needed. Manage and organize exhibits used in court proceedings, including setting up and troubleshooting electronic evidence presentation systems. Attend court sessions and conferences. Assist with the orderly flow of proceedings including, but not limited to, setting up the courtroom, ensuring all courtroom technology is operational and available. Serve as liaison with court personnel and members of the bar on issues related to courtroom technology. Assure the presence of all necessary participants, assist with the selection of juries, and manage exhibits. Take notes of proceedings, rulings, notices and prepare minute entries electronically. Prepare judgments and other orders for judge's review and signature. Make summary entries of documents and proceedings on the docket. Prepare and transmit to appropriate parties such items as: notices, judgments, and orders. Review information relating to pending cases to ensure all records and reference materials are available for use by the judge and counsel. Act as liaison between the clerk's office, the bar, and the judge to ensure that cases proceed smoothly and efficiently. Serve as a primary source of information on scheduling conferences, hearings, trials, and other case processes. Ensure courtroom technology equipment is set up and in working order to record court proceedings. May perform case management duties and/or provide assistance to employees performing case management duties and administrative tasks as needed. Provide general administrative support to chambers Perform other duties as assigned to support the Court and the Clerk's Office Qualifications The applicant must be a high school graduate or equivalent. A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is preferred. Applicant must have minimum of three years of work experience. At least one of the three years must qualify as specialized experience as set forth below. For placement at the 27 level, at least two of the three years must qualify as specialized experience as set forth below. Educational substitutions for general work experience may apply on a year-for-year basis. General Experience General Experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates the possession of, or the ability to acquire, the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position. Specialized Experience Specialized Experience is progressively responsible clerical, administrative, or legal experience that demonstrates the ability to understand and apply rules, regulations, directives, or laws to case management duties. Specialized experience also involves the routine use of legal terminology as well as automated software and equipment for word processing, data entry, or report generation.
