St. Louis County Court En Banc is is looking for a motivated individual to join their team as an Attorney Intern. The Attorney Intern will assist attorneys as they litigate criminal and civil cases in trial courts, conduct legal research and provide legal counsel. This is a 2-year term limited position with an expected start date of August 2027. The typical starting salary is $30.54 hourly. Provide research assistance to the Associate Circuit and Circuit Court judges or Assessor by analyzing and researching case law, statutes, ordinances and/or rules, and summarizing and reporting findings in legal memoranda concerning cases before them. Present appropriate written or oral recommendations for resolution of legal questions posed concerning cases before the judges and prepare orders, judgments, findings of fact and conclusions of law for the judges' signatures. Analyze pleadings, motions, briefs and evidence, and apply legal principles to specific circumstances of cases. Assist Associate Circuit and Circuit judges on the bench and in chambers during the course of a trial or hearing. Compile references on laws and decisions necessary for legal determinations. Periodically evaluate the merit of petitions for writs of habeas corpus. Confer with the Associate Circuit and Circuit Court judges or Assessor to explain legal research followed and recommendations made for resolution. Draft and review legislation to ensure the passage of valid ordinances and resolutions. Perform other duties as required or assigned. Candidates must possess a Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school (at the time of employment begins) and have eligibility to sit for the Missouri Bar Exam. Possession of a valid Missouri Board of Law Examiner membership card within 18 months of employment.

SELECTION AND APPOINTMENT

: A selection committee will evaluate the qualifications of each applicant which will include recentness and appropriateness of the applicant's education and experience, answers to the supplemental questions, results of employment references investigated and any other appropriate information available. The selection committee will admit to the interview only those persons who possess the most job related qualifications and may establish admittance criteria beyond the minimum qualifications stated above. Responses provided to the interview questions listed under the Supplemental Question heading of this posting will comprise 100% of the applicant's earned grade. A candidate must earn a qualifying grade of 70 or more on the interview to be eligible for appointment. Once questions are scored, an email will be sent to the address on file with instructions on how to complete and submit a Conviction Questionnaire. Candidates have 3 days to complete the required questionnaire. The five top ranking candidates, based on the final grade, will be certified to the Department Director/Appointing Authority who will make the final decision. All applicants conditionally offered a merit position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Screening will be performed by a reputable clinical laboratory. The cost of screening will be covered by the County. In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.
