The victim Advocate is responsible for the provision of information, support, assistance, accompaniment and intervention with any aspect of the civil or criminal legal system on behalf of a victim of DV/SA. The victim Advocate responsibilities also include; facilitation of referrals for legal representation for criminal or civil matters, acting as a liaison between the court systems in Lafayette, Ray, Carroll, and Saline Counties and the clients served by House of Hope Inc. Other Responsibilities include- Assists clients with filing for and receiving ex-partes and provides information on the use of the order. Also prepares the client for the court proceedings. Provides education to victims regarding the dynamics of domestic violence, safety planning, and the Adult Abuse Act. Provides information regarding the Crime Victims Assistance Fund and assists the application, if necessary. Educates victims on court and law enforcement procedures and any other information to most effectively access the legal system. Maintains a close, collaborative relationship with court personnel, law enforcement, and Prosecutors office to resolve conflicts or any other problem a victim may encounter. Provides on-going crisis intervention and domestic and sexual violence education. Ensures confidentiality is maintained. Schedules and facilitates support in various locations in Ray, Carroll, Lafayette and Saline County. Provides additional training to volunteers who wish to assist with legal court advocacy. Maintains accurate records of services and activities. Will perform any and all other duties relating to direct services delivery, as requested by supervisor.

Qualifications:

Must have or acquire after hire 48 hours of domestic violence and sexual violence training through company-provided training. Competition of a bachelor's degree and experience working with individuals impacted by domestic and sexual violence. Familiarity with law enforcement, the justice system, and basic legal terminology. Good oral and written skills. An ability to remain calm and patient under stressful situations. An understanding of the issue of domestic and sexual violence and sensitivity to the plight of battered men, women and children.
