Victim Advocate Job Description Purpose of Position:

To provide comprehensive one-on-one services of the highest standard for crime victims to ensure their rights are protected.

Abilities:

• Work directly with crime victims
• Develop a working knowledge and understanding of victimology and the criminal justice system
• Self-disciplined with excellent organizational skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills (oral and written).
• Have a strong desire to make a difference in the lives of those impacted by crime
• The person in this position will be required to talk extensively to victims of violent crime who may be emotionally distraught.

Superb listening skills, patience, and empathy are critical. In addition, qualified individuals must possess proper self-care techniques to manage stress and have crisis response experience or experience in working with victims of violent crime.

Specific Duties:

• The position performs a variety of administrative duties including data entry, preparation of documents, filing of documents, preparation of files. This position also provides customer service to the public, Judicial Offices, Attorney's and Courthouse staff.
• Provide general information about the criminal justice system, including the Oklahoma Bill of Rights, to all victims
• Assist with medical and financial support including restitution and crime victims compensation
• Advise victims of specific information pertaining to their case
• Coordinate victim's court appearances
• Process travel arrangements for out-of-state victims
• Schedule meetings between victims and the District Attorney/ADAs
• Prepare victims for the judicial process
• Provide emotional support
• Attend court proceedings with victims
• Assist in maintaining a safe and separate environment for crime victims
• Attend the CCRT meeting monthly
• Promote community awareness regarding crime victims compensation
