Job Description

About Securities Under limited supervision, performs professional legal work for the State, its subdivisions, and officials. Assigned to the Securities Section as Assistant Attorney General. Represents the Securities and Money Services Sections in the investigative stages of securities and money services cases. Following the investigation, make recommendations regarding the appropriate resolution of assigned cases. Prepares pleadings related to assigned cases. Successfully negotiates assigned cases. Represent the Securities and Money Services Sections in the trial or hearing and appellate phases of assigned cases. Perform other duties as assigned by the Division Director or the Attorney General. This position also includes an excellent benefits package: Public Service Loan Forgiveness eligibility. Paid parental leave. Thirteen paid holidays. State Retirement Plan and Deferred Compensation Programs. A Juris Doctorate Degree and at least 5 years of experience as a practicing attorney.

Necessary Requirement:

Must be a member and in good standing with the SC Bar. Must satisfy Rule 403 requirements.

Additional Requirements:

Position may be required to travel to court and transport files. Some travel is required. Knowledge of the laws of South Carolina. Knowledge of general case, statutory, and common law. Knowledge of judicial and quasi-judicial procedures and rules of guidance. Ability to interpret and apply laws in court decisions. Ability to analyze facts, evidence, and legal instruments. Ability to express conclusions and arguments clearly and logically. Ability to plan and direct the activities of a legal staff.
