Job Description

Job Summary The Associate Municipal Judge performs Municipal Judge duties for the City of Granbury, as needed, as outlined in the City Charter and Texas State Law. Typical Duties Available to fill in for Municipal Judge on as needed basis. Conduct trials, both jury and bench, brought before the court in a fair and impartial manner and according to law. Conduct arraignments and hearings to include juvenile hearings, indigent hearings, dangerous animal hearings, property hearings, and show cause hearings. Review probable cause statements and issue warrants for arrests and searches. In coordination with Municipal Judge, function as Magistrate for City cases that are booked into the Hood County Jail 365 days a year. Issue emergency protective orders for family violence cases. Issue search warrants for the purpose of investigating a health and safety or nuisance abatement ordinance violation. Issue seizure warrants for the purpose of securing, removing, or demolishing the offending property and removing the debris from the premises. Review and sign judgements. Formally accept pleas brought before the court. Determine the fine amounts, court costs and formal sentencing of defendants found guilty or who have plead guilty. Review and approve/deny plea bargains or dismissals brought before the Court by the City Prosecutor. Perform additional duties that are prescribed by law. Minimum Qualifications Judges shall successfully complete all training and education as provided by Texas State Law. Annual continuing education requirements are available at the Texas Municipal Courts Education Center (TMCEC).

Work may be subject to time pressures, frequent changes to tasks, working closely with others as part of a team, working alone 50% or more of the time, and/or performing multiple tasks simultaneously. Majority of work is performed in an office setting and may be subject to ordinary risks typically found in an office environment. Physical Requirements Ability to sit for extended periods of time. Ability to stand, bend, squat, kneel, push, pull, and stoop while opening file drawers to place or retrieve files from filing cabinets. Hearing and vision must be satisfactory to the degree that duties may be performed effectively and safely. Employee must be able to lift up to 15 pounds (i.e. computer paper, mail deliveries and supplies).
