Job Description

This position includes multiple vacancies across different sections of the Attorney General's Office. You will have an opportunity to select which sections you have an interest in. Under limited supervision, provide support to attorneys representing the State in state and federal courts.
Responsibilities include:
Conducting legal research Preparing briefs, pleadings, memoranda, or other legal documents. Assisting with courtroom hearings and proceedings. Reviewing and summarizing evidence and exhibits Supporting junior law clerks by monitoring caseloads and offering guidance on tasks and assignments. Candidates must meet one of the following criteria: 1) be a current law student graduating in December 2026, 2) be transferring from out of state and preparing for the swearing-in, or 3) be a recent graduate from an ABA-accredited law school awaiting SC Bar results. Before transferring into a permanent Assistant Attorney General position, the applicant must complete Rule 403 requirements. Candidates involved in the State Grand Jury matters will be sworn to SGJ secrecy protocols and required to participate in the random drug testing program.
Additional Requirements:
The position may require travel and the transport of files. Proficient in computers, software, and technology, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and other related tools. Occasional overnight travel may be necessary, especially during trial s or hearings across the State. Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently and meet deadlines. Excellent writing and attention to detail. Effective communication and advocacy skills. Advanced legal research abilities. Professional demeanor when interacting with the public and officials. Familiarity with relevant laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the work.
