About the Program VKHH's Summer Associate Program is designed to provide law students with a substantive, hands-on introduction to the practice of law and an authentic view of life as an associate at the Firm. Summer Associates work alongside VKHH attorneys on meaningful client matters across the Firm's practices while developing the legal, professional, and interpersonal skills necessary for a successful legal career. What You'll Do Summer Associates receive assignments that reflect the work of the Firm's associates and may include: Conducting legal research and analysis on substantive and procedural issues; Drafting memoranda, motions, briefs, pleadings, discovery, correspondence, and other legal documents; Assisting attorneys with case strategy, factual development, and preparation for hearings, depositions, mediations, arbitrations, trials, and other proceedings; Supporting transactional and advisory matters, as applicable; Attending client meetings, hearings, depositions, trials, negotiations, closings, and other proceedings when opportunities arise; Participating in practice group meetings, attorney training, and professional development opportunities; and Working collaboratively with partners and associates across the Firm's offices and practice areas. Assignments vary based on client needs, practice group activity, and each Summer Associate's interests and experience.
Requirements Candidates should be:
Currently enrolled and in good standing at an ABA-accredited law school; A first- or second-year law student at the time of application; Academically accomplished with strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills; Excellent written and verbal communicators; Detail-oriented, responsive, and committed to producing high-quality work; Able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team; and Interested in building a legal career characterized by excellent client service, sound judgment, professionalism, and collaboration. Law review, moot court, advocacy, leadership, prior work experience, and other demonstrated achievements are valued but not required.
