PT Law Clerk.

Job Type:
Part-Time. The PT Law Clerk coordinates the review, analysis, and initial response to legal issues for the Office of General Counsel. This role prepares, verifies, and documents legal matters, researches compliance concerns, drafts legal documents, and supports HCC personnel by serving as an internal resource. The Law Clerk also assists with coordination of external counsel activities.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Provide initial review of HCC contracts Draft, review, revise, and negotiate contract terms to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal requirements. Interpret and answer questions about HCC political/legal issues. Conduct investigations, gather documents, and prepare case files for lawsuits or complaints. Review policies and procedures for compliance with current laws. Monitor new or revised laws impacting higher education. Provide training on legal issues as needed. Coordinate with legal secretary regarding scheduling and matters requiring General Counsel attention. Analyze questions or actions from administrators/employees/Board to determine research requirements. Research proposed actions for compliance. Prepare written reports to mitigate legal liability and outline compliance steps. Communicate responses following initial analysis and consultation with General Counsel. Prioritize varied workload including projects, reports, coordination with external counsel. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor's degree AND post-graduate work in law or contracts required. Copy of transcript conferring degree must accompany application.
Experience:
Minimum 1-year legal field experience (preferably in higher education).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Proficiency with Westlaw, Lexis-Nexis, and legal research databases. Ability to research regulations, laws, and legislation. High analytical ability, flexibility, self-motivation, dependability, and strong human-relations skills. Extensive knowledge of laws applicable to higher education (preferred). Effective written and oral communication. Attention to detail, strong problem-solving, teamwork, and organization skills. Ability to take initiative and exercise independent judgment. Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Salary:
$19.00 hr.•23.00 hr.
