Department:
The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) is located near the City's downtown business and historic districts. Huntsville has 3 Police Precincts, approximately 500 sworn officers, 200 civilian personnel and patrols an area around 220 square miles. HPD is a "Professional Law Enforcement Organization" utilizing modern technology, state of the art equipment and comprehensive training techniques. The Department is an internationally accredited law enforcement agency through the "Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement" (CALEA).
Public Safety Services Assistant Position Overview:
This is technical work involving the maintenance and administration of departmental information systems, records, and administrative support functions, including the Police Department's SharePoint pages, Police Records Management System (RMS), inventory records, and other technology-related resources. Work involves maintaining accurate electronic records, updating departmental information, assisting with inventory management and audits, responding to inquiries from retirees and their family members, and preparing and disseminating information through a variety of communication methods. Work is performed with some independence requiring initiative, judgment, and attention to detail, and is reviewed for adherence to departmental policies and procedures, accuracy, completeness, and overall effectiveness.
Qualifications and Necessary Special Requirements:
High school diploma from a school accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or GED certificate issued by the appropriate state agency is required. Some college experience with a background in computer sciences is desired. Experience and knowledge of personal computers and software applications is required. Must meet all Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) compliance requirements within six (6) months of hire. Must pass a fingerprint background check. Must successfully complete a pre-employment supplemental application. Must successfully complete a polygraph examination if selected for hire.
