Chandler Police Department 2026 Police Sergeant Promotional Process- Only sworn Chandler Police Officer employees are eligible to apply.
- The City of Chandler Police Department is currently seeking qualified individuals to create an eligibility list for the full-time position of Police Sergeant.
Classification Summary:
This position is responsible for supervisory and administrative work as first-line supervisor of a group of sworn police officers and/or civilian employees who are assigned to uniform patrol, criminal investigations, crime prevention or other related duties; or may be assigned to a staff position not requiring immediate supervisory responsibility. An employee in this classification is expected to perform the same work as a Police Officer when required. Some job duties will include planning, coordinating, scheduling, training, and supervising the work of both police officers and civilian employees. Knowledge of State statutes and City ordinances, particularly of the laws of arrest and evidence and of the principles of accident investigation and interview techniques is required. This position requires good judgment, leadership, the ability to analyze situations quickly and objectively, and to be able to communicate clearly and objectively both orally and in writing. This position must maintain acceptable departmental physical standards and maintain the ability to use firearms and related police emergency equipment. Applicants must also have a working knowledge of police practices and methods, including supervisory methods; and geography of the City of Chandler.Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED equivalency, with an associate's degree or 60 college credits. A copy of your transcripts or degree must be attached to the application; and
- Endorsement letter from your current supervisor or most recent supervisor if recently changed. This letter should include witnessed evidence of mentorship, informal leadership, qualities demonstrating competencies for the Sergeant position, and qualifications. A copy of the letter (memo format) must be attached to the application; and
- Attend the pre-requisite course offered on August 26-27, 2026 or a previous pre-requisite course and;
- At least four (4) years of experience at the rank of Police Officer with the Chandler Police Department, OR one (1) year experience as a Chandler Police Officer and at least three (3) years' experience as a Police Officer with another agency; and
- AZPOST Certification; and
- Valid Arizona Driver's License with acceptable driving record.
