We offer a tiered salary structure based on relevant law enforcement and/or military police experience: Starting salary: $82,148 (Tier 1) Maximum salary: $116,645 (Tier 6) Lateral applicants may receive salary credit for the following experience: 1 year of credit per year as a certified peace officer with another law enforcement agency ½ year of credit per year as a non-certified Deputy Sheriff and/or Military Police Officer For details on salary, benefits and retirement,CLICK HERE Job Summary:
Deputy Sheriffs in the Patrol Division are responsible for protecting life, property, and public safety by enforcing laws and responding to emergencies. Duties include but are not limited to: Patrol Douglas County to prevent and detect crime Respond to calls for service, including accidents and emergencies Investigate incidents and prepare detailed reports Gather and preserve evidence Secure and process crime scenes Serve warrants, subpoenas, and civil processes Arrest suspects and testify in court Maintain public order and safety Deputy Sheriffs in the Detentions Division are responsible for protecting the public and providing institutional safety of adult offenders in the Douglas County Jail. Duties include but are not limited to: Prepare a variety of reports, records, affidavits, and logs as required to maintain office activities Transport, book and process prisoners Supervise jail and provide security for courts Investigate incidents and prepare detailed reports Gather and preserve evidence Secure and process crime scenes Arrest suspects and testify in court Maintain public order and safetyRequired Equipment:
Deputy Sheriffs are required to supply their own duty handgun and limited personal equipment (undershirts, duty boots, flashlight) prior to being sworn in. Ask for specific equipment requirements before making purchases.Essential Skills & Responsibilities:

Must be a United States citizen or legal permanent resident who is lawfully present in the United States pursuant to Federal Law and § 24-76.5-103, C.R.S. Must possess a current Basic Colorado POST Certification or currently attending a Colorado POST recognized basic academy with a scheduled graduation date. Provisional Colorado POST Certifications are NOT accepted at this time. At least 21 years of age High school diploma or GED Valid Colorado driver's license Ability to pass various qualifying exams and a pre-employment background investigation Ability to pass polygraph, psychological, and medical exams Ability to perform under stress and perform physical tests consistent with law enforcement requirements to include running, climbing barriers, jumping over, or climbing under or through obstacles and performing strenuous physical activity. Must be physically and mentally able to work rotating shifts, including day shift, swing shift, and night shift. Shift work also includes working weekends and holidays. In the event of an emergency/disaster in or near the County, all County employees are expected to make every effort to be available to assist the County Manager, Elected/Appointed Officials and Department Directors to ensure the continued operation of any and all necessary County functions. This may mean being available to perform additional duties and hours beyond what is normally required. In the event that an exempt employee does work more than 40 hours a week in support of County operations during an emergency, such employee may receive overtime or other appropriate wage compensation in accordance with existing County policies or at the discretion of the County.
