Job Summary The Chief of Police is a vital leadership position responsible for overseeing all law enforcement operations within the jurisdiction. This role requires a proactive and strategic leader who can effectively manage police personnel, develop community relations, and ensure the safety and security of the community. The Chief of Police will implement policies, enforce laws, and lead initiatives to enhance public safety while fostering a culture of integrity and professionalism within the department. Responsibilities Direct and oversee all police department operations, including patrol, investigations, and community policing efforts. Develop and implement departmental policies, procedures, and strategic plans to enhance law enforcement effectiveness. Manage personnel matters including recruitment, training, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions. Foster positive relationships with community members, local organizations, and government officials to promote public trust and collaboration. Conduct criminal investigations as necessary and oversee the investigation process to ensure thoroughness and adherence to legal standards. Utilize surveillance techniques to monitor criminal activity and ensure effective response strategies are in place. Prepare comprehensive reports on departmental activities, crime statistics, and operational effectiveness for review by city officials. Manage conflict situations effectively through conflict management techniques to ensure peaceful resolutions. Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations governing law enforcement practices. Provide guidance on animal handling and care when responding to incidents involving animals. Qualifications Proven experience in law enforcement with a strong background in criminal investigation practices. Extensive knowledge of law enforcement principles, practices, and procedures. Strong report writing skills to document incidents accurately and comprehensively. Certification in CPR is preferred; additional certifications related to law enforcement are a plus. Demonstrated ability in conflict management with effective communication skills. Experience in animal handling is desirable for situations involving animal care or control. Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
