Job Overview We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Chief of Police to lead our law enforcement agency with integrity, innovation, and a commitment to community safety. As the top law enforcement officer, you will oversee all departmental operations, ensure adherence to legal standards, and foster positive relationships with the community. Your leadership will be vital in maintaining order, enforcing laws, and implementing policies that promote safety and trust. Duties Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction for the police department, ensuring effective law enforcement practices across all divisions. Oversee daily operations including patrol, investigations, traffic enforcement, community policing, and administrative functions. Develop and implement policies aligned with legal standards such as procedural law, evidence law, and local ordinances to ensure lawful conduct during all police activities. Supervise department personnel through hiring, training, performance evaluations, and conflict management to cultivate a motivated and professional team. Coordinate with local government agencies, emergency responders, and community organizations to enhance public safety initiatives. Oversee criminal investigations by directing evidence collection, search and seizure procedures, arrest protocols, and criminal law application. Ensure compliance with use of force protocols, firearms handling procedures in law enforcement contexts, CPR/First Aid/First Aid protocols, and other safety standards. Manage departmental resources efficiently while maintaining high standards of physical conditioning among officers through ongoing training in driving skills, surveillance techniques, search procedures, and other operational skills. Prepare detailed reports on incidents, investigations, arrests, and departmental activities to support transparency and accountability. Experience Must be in good standing with the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standard Board (ILETSB) and maintain a valid Illinois police officer certification.' Minimum of 21 years of age. High School Graduate or Equivalent. Valid Driver's license. No Felony convictions or misdemeanor crimes of immoral turpitude. Must have a minimum of Five (5) consecutive years of law enforcement experience. Must successfully pass a comprehensive background investigation. Must successfully pass a drug screening. Must demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with residents, Village officials, department personnel, and other public-safety agencies. Must demonstrate the ability to supervise, manage, and provide leadership to police officers. Must be capable of overseeing officer training and ensuring that department personnel maintain required certifications, training, and professional courtesy. Must demonstrate sound judgment, professionalism, integrity, accountability, and the ability to make effective decisions in a law-enforcement leadership position. Proven leadership experience in law enforcement or military service with a strong understanding of criminal investigation techniques and law enforcement procedures. Extensive knowledge of traffic laws, criminal law experience including arrest procedures and evidence handling laws such as search and seizure laws. Demonstrated ability to manage personnel effectively while fostering teamwork through conflict management skills. Familiarity with procedural law knowledge including criminal procedure laws applicable at local or state levels. Experience in conducting surveillance operations using modern technology tools; familiarity with security systems is a plus. Strong background in report writing with attention to detail for incident documentation and legal compliance. Physical conditioning suitable for demanding police duties including driving standard passenger cars safely under various conditions. Additional qualifications such as CPR certification, first aid training (including protocols), firearms handling in law enforcement contexts, animal handling skills (for situations involving animals), immigration law awareness (if applicable), loss prevention techniques, security operations experience, or animal care knowledge are highly desirable.
