Starting salary is $69,036.48 for a correctional deputy. After a year of service, the pay increases to $78,767.07.

Citizenship:

Age Requirements:

Be twenty-one (21) years of age. An applicant may apply at age twenty (20), provided that no applicant shall be eligible for employment certification until their 21st birthday. There is no maximum age

Education:

Must have a High School Diploma or have a certification of equivalency

Character:

Must have no felony convictions, nor domestic violence criminal convictions, nor any misdemeanor conviction involving moral turpitude (50 ILCS 705/6), nor dishonorable discharge (U.S. Army RE-4 separation classification or equivalent) from the military

Eyesight:

Eyesight must be correctable to 20/20, free of color and night blindness

Testing:

Must be able to participate and successfully complete all phases of the testing which includes a written examination, oral interview, physical agility, psychological evaluation, medical test, drug screening and background investigation which includes a polygraph

Residency:

Must reside within a 25-mile radius of the Kendall County Public Safety Center within 1 year of date of hire. A waiver request can be submitted at the time of conditional job offer

The Testing Process:

The testing process includes a written exams via NTN, oral interview, C.A.T (Corrections Agility Test), an in-depth application and background investigation, polygraph exam, fingerprints, psychological exam, and full medical exam including a drug-screening test will. All will be performed before being hired.

Test (Corrections Agility Test): Candidates who successfully pass the written exam with a 70% or higher will be scheduled for an interview. The Kendall County Sheriff's Office C.A.T. test will be scheduled after successfully passing the oral interview and is loosely based on the IL Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board

Test. The applicant has one of two options: 1) provide a copy of successfully passing the

test dated between 08.01.25 and 08.31.26 or 2) Take the C.A.T. test after passing the oral interview. The Corrections Agility Test is comprised of: Sit and Reach

• 12 minutes or less Maximum Bench Press o 50% of body weight for females o 70% of body weight for males After the applicant has successfully passed the written exam, corrections agility test and the oral interview, the applicant will be placed on a certified list of applicants.

Once certified the applicant will be on the list until a position is available at which time the applicant will finish the testing process. The eligibility list will be good for 18 months from the date of the certification. Testing Dates for Oral Interview and C.A.T. Test will be determined after the successfully passing the written portion of the process.

CORRECTIONS DIVISION OVERVIEW

The Kendall County Sheriff's Office Corrections Division serves the citizens of Kendall County by enhancing public safety through the operation of a safe, secure, and humane correctional facility that establishes structure and accountability for offenders who are arrested and accused of a crime; as well as those convicted and sentenced to incarceration by the courts. These efforts are accomplished by highly trained and dedicated correctional professionals. The Kendall County Jail provides for the custody of individuals awaiting trial, subjects serving sentences up to one year, and subjects sentenced to periodic imprisonment. The current Kendall County Jail was opened in 1992 with a capacity of 60 beds. In 2000, the Jail was renovated and an additional 24 beds were added. In late 2005, a new wing was constructed, and 119 beds were added to the jail creating a new jail capacity of 203 beds. In 2022, we began renovations and our current capacity is 103.
