General Job Description:
This is an entry level protection work, learning and becoming certified in both Civil and Criminal enforcement within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Employees learn to transport prisoners from State, County, City and courthouse institutions, provide protection for courthouse, judicial staff, and public safety for all judicial facilities, and maintain custody of prisoners during legal proceedings. Positions in this class serve in a training capacity learning and pursuing certification in the methods and techniques and developing the abilities necessary to perform both criminal and civil enforcement and to serve legal documents and enforcement of laws as outlined in C.S. Title 18, C.S. Title 75 and Title 231. This work involves regular exposure to unpredictable conditions and physical effort is frequently required. Work is performed under the close supervision of a higher‑level deputy sheriff.
