Job Description
The Boone County Sheriff's Office, located in Columbia, MO, is looking for a Deputy Sheriff The Boone County Sheriff's Office is a top tier law enforcement organization. We are the only Sheriff's Office in Missouri that has achieved two national accreditations from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) for our law enforcement operations and from the National Institute for Jail Operations (NIJO) for our jail operations. The staff at the Sheriff's Office are dedicated to serving their community with the highest degree of professionalism and to serving the training needs of our law enforcement partners. We have been providing training to other law enforcement agencies since 2015 to help with the professional development of our law enforcement partners. As part of its commitment to providing high quality training to other law enforcement agencies, we took over operations of the local law enforcement training academy in 2024. During the same year we received funding to develop a new Regional Training Center to further support the training mission for area law enforcement. That new facility is scheduled to open in late 2025. The Sheriff's Office is committed to supporting its staff. As part of that commitment, we are developing a childcare center for our employee's and anticipate opening in 2026. The childcare center will operate 24 hours a day to ensure support for staff that work overnight hours. Responsibilities:
Maintain law and order serve legal process of the courts by:- Processing citizen complaints
- Documenting and writing reports on law violations,
- Transporting prisoners
- Service of civil process
- And overall general law enforcement in the County.
Status:
Full-time, non-exempt, benefited Working hours: 10-hour shifts from 6am to 4pm, or 2pm to 12am, or 9pm to 7am. Shifts include working some weekends and holidays. Must be able to work any shift at the department's discretion.Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent Applicant must be 21 years of age or older. No felony convictions. Must possess a valid class A or B Missouri Peace Officer License or current enrollment in a police academy Must pass a medical examination, psychological assessment, a pre-employment drug screen, and an FBI fingerprint background check Must meet additional minimum qualifications as stated in the current job description, which can be found at: https://www.showmeboone.com/hr/common/pdf/job-desc/43-401300-SH-Deputy-Sheriff.pdfHourly Pay Rate:
$29.08/hour. Shift differential of $1.50 or $2.00 per hour for shifts that start after 6pm weekdays, all shifts on weekends, and all shifts on county holidays.
