Description

Leads and participates in enforcing laws on airport property and in providing for safety for the public and airport operations.

Maintain contact with officers to provide advice or assistance, and to respond to more difficult situations;

Supervise recordkeeping by officers and forward reports through the chain of command;

Assist Airport Police Lieutenant in compiling data and statistics on police operations;

Project a positive role model and utilize leadership skills in dealing with officers;

Serve as first-line supervisor in the chain of command;

Receive orders from superiors and provide direction to subordinate officers;

Review and approve reports in the absence of the Airport Police Lieutenant, or as needed. Submit reports through the chain of command for final approval;

Approve days off requested by officers;

Perform evaluations of officers' performance and initiate disciplinary action for violations of department, city, state, or federal policies or laws;

Resolve complaints from the public or from officers in a professional manner;

Perform related duties as required.

Completion of a high school diploma or the equivalent with an additional three to five years of responsible experience as a law enforcement officer; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following:

Certified Peace Officer;

Texas Driver's License.

Physical Exam Required

Knowledge of:

The principles of modern police administration;

Accepted practices and procedures of police science;

Aviation Department, City, federal, and state laws, policies, and procedures.

Ability to:

Instruct and advise subordinates in all pertinent phases of law enforcement and FAA security procedures;

Plan, assign, and coordinate the work of a number of subordinate officers;

Establish and maintain effective public relations;

Communicate effectively with others;

Provide general automotive assistance to stranded motorists;

Receive orders from superiors and give direction to subordinate officers;

Review and approve reports.

Physical Requirements:

Maintain the ability to:

Stand and walk during the shift.

Frequently lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds;

Frequently carry up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 25 pounds;

Push and pull objects;

Occasionally flex upper trunk forward a the waist;

Place arms above, at, and below shoulder height;

Coordinate eye, hand, and foot movement in order to operate a vehicle.
