The City of Sandy Oaks is seeking a Police Chief for a department of 4 full-time officers. The applicant must have experience in budgeting, supervision, criminal investigations, case management, recruiting, and community relations, and the ability to maintain an effective, highly motivated department. This is a working Chief position and will require patrol shifts as needed.
Qualifications:
Requirements TCOLE Certified and have a Master Peace Officers License minimum of fifteen years' experience in law enforcement at least five years command experience Applicant must have a valid driver s license and be able to pass an extensive background check Be present and lead by example. Maintain a high level of discipline and morale. Demonstrate sound decision-making, ethical conduct, community stewardship, individual initiative, and responsive service. Essential Job Functions Ensures the overall success of the department through oversight and review of all police services and day-to-day operations and personnel to ensure professional police services are being delivered. Be a mentor to staff. Responsible for police preparedness through training and educational meetings on tactics, safety, and general protocols. Coordinating activities and operations with other law enforcement agencies, mutual aid organizations, cities, and other agencies as required. Oversees the maintenance of police records, including operational reports, special reports, and all other reporting requirements regulated by City, State, or Federal agencies. Select, supervise, train, and conduct timely performance evaluations of department personnel. Possess knowledge of the theories, principles, and practices of effective police administration with particular attention to planning and organizing police services and operations; Plan and implement department goals on a short and long-term basis to address personnel retention and expansion as necessary to keep pace with City growth. Prepare police activity and crime reports for the City Administrator, as well as other reports as warranted. Work with citizens, businesses, and City officials to enhance relationships within the community about any law enforcement issue. Maintain a positive working relationship with other City departments, outside agencies, and the media. Develop and manage the department budget, planning for effective, efficient resource allocation; manage department spending within budgetary guidelines by evaluating spending and making budget recommendations. Respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive citizen inquiries and complaints Possess working knowledge and experience in negotiations related to Civil Service matters, including Meet & Confer negotiations. Assess present and future equipment needs; research and compile information about equipment costs, specifications, and suitability; recommend upgrades or replacements; and oversee equipment selection, purchase, and maintenance. Attends community outreach events, including city-sponsored events and those events in the city that are open to the public. Other duties as assigned.

Residence Requirement:
The Police Chief shall be able to respond to the City limits of Sandy Oaks within a 30-minute drive time.
Work is performed primarily in office environments and occasionally within construction environments (rare). May be subject to repetitive motion such as typing, data entry, and vision to monitor. May be subject to walking on uneven or unstable terrain, occasional standing, bending, reaching, kneeling, or lifting, such as when at the scene of an accident, crime, or other relevant Police situation. Must be a U.S. Citizen Must have a valid Class C Texas driver s license and maintain a satisfactory driving record.
