The Bedford County Sheriff's Office compensates current Virginia DCJS certified law enforcement officers for up to 5 years of experience when determining their starting salary. Exclusions include jail officers, courtroom security officers, sworn security officers, and any other sworn officer that has not conducted policing similar to the responsibilities of a Bedford County Sheriff's Deputy. Overtime pay is provided in lieu of compensatory time. Opportunities for overtime or extra duties pay at $45 per hour include lake patrol, community events, football games, extra patrol shifts, DMV grants, church security, inmate work detail and more.
