GED PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Ability to read, write and converse in Spanish Responsibilities Performs a variety of law enforcement duties in the preservation of public peace and prevention of crimes, including protecting life and property, enforcing all laws and ordinances, investigating crimes and accidents, making arrests, providing credible testimony in various courts, conducting traffic surveys to determine problem areas, assisting in school and community functions, as well as, public relations activities, and other cases as assigned. EMPLOYMENT PROCESS

In order to be eligible for employment with the Hoover Police Department a candidate must successfully complete the Physical Agilities/Abilities Test. You can view the Physical Abilities/Agilities requirements at the following website - http://www.apostc.state.al.us . Go to "Forms" on the left side of the page then scroll to bottom of the page to access the Physical Agility Ability Course. STEP 1

Police Officer Physical Abilities/Agilities Test:

Qualified applicants will be required to attend the Physical Agilities test on Friday, October 2, 2026 at 8:00 a.m. STEP 2

Police Officer Written Examination:

Applicants who pass the Physical Agilities Test will be scheduled to participate in a written examination the same day, scheduled for Friday, October 2, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. Here is the link to the PO-EL study guide: PO-EL Study Guide (Online) - Public Safety Compass This Guide should help you prepare for the examination.

APOST Certification:

Qualified candidates must successfully complete APOST minimum standards, or attain APOST certification, within six months from date of employment with the City of Hoover Police Department. Please do not attach any documents other than cover letters, resumes or military form DD214. Police Officer candidates who meet the minimum requirements and achieve a passing score on the written examination and physical agilities/abilities test will be further screened through our evaluation process, which considers related work experience, education, certifications and special training. Police Officer candidate finalists will then be evaluated based on personal interviews.
