The City of Richmond Police Department is looking for experienced, currently sworn California peace officers—officers who've completed probation and are ready for the next chapter in a supportive, mission-driven department. As a Lateral Police Officer , you'll step into a critical role: protecting people and property, preventing crime, conducting investigations, enforcing traffic laws, and serving a diverse and engaged community. Compensation & Benefits $123,588 - $142,558 annual base salary City-paid medical, dental, and vision Paid vacation, holidays, sick leave, and administrative leave CalPERS retirement contributions Life and disability insurance Tuition and professional development reimbursement Four weeks of paid parental leave Who Should Apply Currently employed sworn peace officers in California—including municipal police, sheriff's offices, CHP, or state agencies—who have successfully completed a comparable probationary period. Minimum Qualifications Age 21 or older High school diploma or equivalent 30 semester (45 quarter) college units by appointment OR substitution of POST-certified academy hours (40 hours = 1 unit; documentation required) Valid California driver's license with satisfactory driving record Vision uncorrected 20/100 each eye, correctable to 20/30 Normal color vision and hearing No felony convictions Currently employed as a California peace officer with probation completed Automatic Disqualifiers Felony convictions Domestic violence convictions Crimes involving moral turpitude Use within the past three years of hallucinogens, psilocybin, LSD, MDMA, cocaine, methamphetamine, or heroin Selection Process Qualified candidates will participate in: Written supplemental responses Oral board interview Background investigation Medical and psychological evaluations Supplemental questions may cover problem-solving experience, community engagement strategies, and your reasons for seeking a lateral transfer.
